Iowa DT Brady Reiff Out of First Game due to July Arrest

The Iowa Hawkeyes kicked off the 2018 college football season with a 33-7 win against Northern Illinois—all without starting defensive tackle Brady Reiff. Back in July, he was arrested for public intoxication after law enforcement said he confused a police car for an Uber ride.

According to police, Reiff approached the cruiser early Saturday morning and attempted to enter the vehicle through the passenger side. When police asked what he was doing, the defensive tackle asked for a ride home.

“He thought it was our job,” an officer at the scene said in the police report. He was then asked if he mistook the cruiser for an Uber, the report said that Reiff replied “Yes.”

Upon taking the preliminary breathalyzer test, he reportedly blew a .204. On the chemical test after the arrest, his BAC was .191, which is two and a half times the legal limit.

As a redshirt junior from South Dakota, Reiff recorded one sack, one interception, and 13 tackles in 12 games last season as a rotational defensive tackle. According to his college biography, he earned the Academic All-Big Ten Team.

Unfortunately, the move he made wasn’t so smart. If you are too drunk to drive and decide to request a ride using the Uber app, make sure you are able to identify the make and model of the requested car before attempting to get in.
